Overview

As a Dental Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the dental team by providing chairside assistance to dentists, ensuring the smooth flow of daily operations, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the dental practice. Your responsibilities will encompass both clinical and administrative tasks to facilitate high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the dentist during various dental procedures, including but not limited to restorative work, extractions, and root canals.
  • Prepare and maintain dental instruments, equipment, and materials.
  • Welcome and prepare patients for treatment, addressing any concerns and ensuring their comfort.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments according to established protocols.
  • Take and process dental X-rays as directed by the dentist.
  • Ensure proper radiation safety measures are followed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including charting treatment plans and procedures performed.
  • Document clinical notes and observations.
  • Collaborate with the dental team in developing and implementing treatment plans.
  • Provide patient education on post-operative care and oral hygiene instructions.
  • Order, organize, and maintain dental supplies.
  • Ensure proper functioning of dental equipment and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • When necessary, schedule appointments and manage patient records using dental software.
  • Adhere to strict infection control protocols to maintain a clean and sterile environment.
  • Follow OSHA and CDC guidelines for infection prevention.
  • Work collaboratively with dentists, dental hygienists, and other team members to provide optimal patient care.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new staff members as needed.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a dental assisting program or equivalent experience.
  • Current certification or licensure as a dental assistant, if required by the state.
  • Proficient in chairside assisting and dental procedures.
  • Knowledge of dental instruments and materials.
  • Certification in dental radiography, per state regulations
  • Competence in taking and processing dental X-rays.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills in managing supplies and equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to convey instructions clearly to patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team setting.
  • Willingness to adapt to the needs of the dental practice.
